IntroductionThe Culbin Singers is an amateur choral society, with a membership of between eighty and ninety singers. The choir, founded in 1971, is based in the town of Forres in Morayshire, in north east Scotland. Forres is situated approximately twenty five miles to the East of Inverness, and ten miles west of Elgin. The choir is a formally constituted organisation, managed by a small committee elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. The conductor is Alistair Hardie. The choir performs regularly at concerts, usually twice every year. There is a Christmas concert, which may include carols, other Christmas music or major choral works; and a Spring concert. The latter may include assorted choral music such as part songs, spirituals, secular pieces, light opera, or major choral works. In the past ten years concerts have featured music by Mozart, Handel, Rutter, Schubert and Hummel. The choir includes members from all walks of life. All we ask is that you can hold a tune, and read the music! Of course, members must also bring enthusiasm and commitment, but the rewards are well worth all the effort that goes into rehearsals and performances. The choir normally rehearses from the end of August until the end of April or early May. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings, and last approximately two hours. The choir regularly takes part in other community activities, and you can read about some of these in the other pages on this site. If you would like to ask the choir to become involved in a community event, do please get in touch with us in plenty of time. The choir's programme of concerts is arranged up to eighteen months in advance, to allow sufficient time for preparation of the programme and to allow us to schedule rehearsals. |
