	Culbin Singers - The Public Performances! Here we have listed, in chronological order, all the public performances the choir has undertaken since its foundation in 1971. In fact the list is far from complete. It has been put together from the choir minutes, and copies of old concert programmes, posters and press cuttings. However we know that there are a number of performances of which no written record exists.- in particular a number at Winter Gatherings in the Universal Hall of the Findhorn Foundation - and so the real total is even greater than that shown here. We would welcome any information from members - past or present - or others - that fills in some of the gaps in the information here, especially which can provide dates for some of the 'missing' public performances - we know that there are a few gaps in the sequence. As it stands however, over ninety performances are listed on this page. Some of them contain links to additional information such as photographs, or copies of concert 'ephemera' such as tickets posters and programmes. All the sound clips are short 'snapshots' from amateur recordings made on amateur equipment - so do not expect anything anywhere close to studio quality! They do however convey something of the sound, and the atmosphere, of the performances. We hope you enjoy reading through this page. If you are a member, past member, friend, concert-goer or just curious about the choir, we hope that what you see here will interest you in some way and perhaps, if you are a singer, you might like to join us. The choir is especially keen to recruit younger male singers, so if you can read music and hold a tune, why not get in touch?

The Culbin Singers - Public Performances 1972 to Present Conductor – Alistair Hardie - 1971 to present Accompanist – Wynn Mitchell – 1971 to 1982 Accompanist – Edith Cook – 1983 to present 1972 Wednesday 17^th May - The choir's first concert after the formal adoption of a constitution. In the Academy Hall, and included The Junior Reel & Strathspey Group with Drummond Cook. The concert was in fact advertised not as a concert but a Coffee Evening. Soprano – Flora McNish Soprano – Ishbel Hardie September 10^th – Festival of flowers and music, St. Laurence Church December 10^th United Advent Service (Venue – St. Laurence Church?) 1973 15^th and 16^th March – Concert with guest soloist. The programme included parts of 'Trial by Jury' in part two. Photograph Soprano - Phyllis Cannon 1974 7^th and 8^th March – Concert with soloist Neil Mackie. Tenor - Neil Mackie 15^th December - Christmas Carol concert – St. Leonard’s Church 1975 20^th and 21^st March – Spring Concert including Songs of the Sea. Photograph Soprano - Shona MacLeod Baritone - John Hearne 5^th and 6^th December – Concert in the Academy Hall. All proceeds from this concert were donated to Christian Aid. Soprano - Irene Main 1976 22^nd and 23^rd April – Concert with Flute and Cello soloists. Described as Forres Church Recital - venue possibly St. Leonard's or St Laurence Church. Flute - Shona Gidney Cello - Ella Taylor 28^th November – Sunday Half Hour for BBC World Service, performance in St Leonard’s Church 12^th December – Carol Recital in St. Leonard's Church 1977 25^th and 26^th March – Spring Concert with vocal soloist in Academy Hall Soprano - Kirsteen Grant 11^th December 1977 – Christmas Carol Service. The Reader was Joy Jackson 1978 20^th and 21^st April – Spring Concert. Included the woodwind section from Moray Division schools orchestra. It is recorded that the accompanist at this concert was Gavin Currie Baritone - John Hearne 4^th June – Coronation Jubilee Joint Service in Grant Park Sunday 10^th December – St Leonard’s Carol Concert including readings. A colour photo of the choir was taken after this concert. A donation was made to the R.N.L.I from the proceedings of this concert. 1979 22^nd and 23^rd March – Concert Mezzo-soprano - Fiona Milne Date not recorded – some members of choir sang at the wedding of Miss Laing, Logie . Sunday 9^th December – Festival of carols – St Leonard’s Church 1980 27^th and 28^th March – Spring concert Tenor - Malcolm G wood 'Early December' (precise date not recorded) – joint concert with RAF Kinloss Band 14^th December - Hopeman Church Carol Concert 1981 Thursday and Friday 26^th and 27^th March – Spring Concert – 10^th Anniversary Concert in Academy Hall Soprano – Elizabeth Ann Stuart 31^st May – Festival of Praise, Bicentenary of Dyke Parish Church 13^th December – joint Christmas Concert with RAF Kinloss Band. St. Leonard's Church 1982 18^th and 19^th March – Spring Concert. Photograph. Mezzo-soprano - Linda Strachan 10^th December – Christmas Concert with Strathspey and Reel Society 1983 10^th and 11^th March – Spring Concert . The programme included 'Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo' Baritone - Peter Webster Oboe - Fiona Gordon 9^th December – Christmas Concert with Elgin Academy Orchestra. in Forres Academy Hall 1984 8^th and 9^th March – Easter Concert Soprano - Kathy Cracker December (Week ending 12^th, date not recorded but probably 14th) – Christmas Concert 1985 29^th March – Spring Concert. The programme included some Handel choruses, as a 'warm-up' in preparing the choir for the next year's concert. Mezzo-soprano - Yvonne Burnett Sunday 2^nd June – Forres Week Ecumenical Service in Grant Park Friday 13^th December Christmas Concert with Forres Academy Junior Strathspey & Reel group, included Vivaldi Gloria and Lloyd-Webber – the Meeting Place. In academy Hall 1986 Sunday 30^th March (Easter Sunday) – Messiah (Handel). St Leonard’s Church. Soprano – Hilary Vernon Contralto – Clare Shearer Tenor – James Croom Bass – David McDonald Trumpet – Alan Friel Organ – Christopher Symons Sunday 14^th December 1986 – Readings and Carols for Christmas (Reader Frank Forbes). The proceeds from this concert were donated to the Highland Hospice. Organ – Christopher Symons 1987 2^nd and 3^rd April – Spring Concert, Including ‘Horrortorio’. In academy Hall - Photo Tenor (plus guitar!) – James Croom Wednesday 16^th December – Christmas Music with the orchestra of Elgin Academy. In academy Hall 1988 Sunday May 15^th – Concert including Chandos Anthem No 9 (Let Thy Hand) (Handel), Zadok The Priest (Handel), and Nelson Mass (Haydn) in St. Leonard’s Church. Soprano – Alison McDonald Mezzo-soprano – Ruth Black Tenor – Ian Darling Bass – William Watson 11^th December – Readings and Carols, in St Leonard’s Church. Reader was Jean McIvor Organ - Graham Wiseman 1989 Thursday / Friday 30^th and 31^st March – Spring Concert, including soloist. In Academy Hall. Photograph Mezzo-soprano – Linda Strachan April - Visit by the choir to Vienenburg. (Exact dates are not recorded but visit began on 1^st April) – Concert given in the Nonnenchor at Wöltingerode, a few miles from Vienenburg. Recorded as the first visit by the choir to Vienenburg, although there is some (unconfirmed) evidence suggesting that some members took part in a concert in Spring 1984. Can any member of the choir provide a definitive answer? 10^th December – Concert with Moray Schools Orchestra 1990 Sunday 18^th March – Concert including anthems by Parry, and hear my Prayer (Mendelssohn). In St Laurence Church - from this point St Laurence Church became the regular venue for the choir's concert requiring use of orchestra and organ. A donation was made to the Cornerstone Project from the proceeds of this concert. Included the Moray Music Centre Orchestra conducted by Graham Wiseman. The reader was Jean McIvor. 1991 Friday 15^th February – Spring (20th Anniversary) concert with Strathspey and Reel group led by Drummond Cook. In the Academy Hall. In Academy Hall . 1993 Sunday 21^st March – Concert including Zadok (Handel), Beatus Vir (Monteverdi), God so loved the World (Stainer), How Lovely are they Dwellings (Brahms), plus flute and cello soloists. In St Laurence Church Soprano – Susan Leslie Tenor – Ian Darling Tenor – Paul Rendall Bass – John Dallas Friday 7^th April – Visit from Vienenburg Kirchenchor and Brass Group – Joint Concert. Pictures Sunday 7^th May – The choir led the praise at a service in Elgin Cathedral to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe. Saturday 9^th December – Christmas concert of music and carols with Moray Schools Orchestra. In Academy Hall 1996 Saturday April 3^rd – The Choir's 25^th Anniversary concert – Requiem (Fauré), Benedicite (Carter). In St Laurence Church. Baritone – Richard Burkhard Children’s Choir from Andersons and Applegrove Schools Saturday 23^rd June – The choir led the praise at the Forres500 ecumenical service 15^th September 1996 – Songs of Praise, Dyke Church 26^th October – concert. Dinner jackets were introduced as formal concert dress for the male members of the choir! Soprano - Eilidh McEwan Mezzo-Soprano - Louise Collett Tenor - Thomas Walker Bass - Philip Gault Orchestra Leader - Colin Saddington Saturday 29^th November - the choir sang in the High Street by the Mercat Cross as the Christmas Lights were turned on. They were again joined by members of the Kinloss Silver Band. On this occasion the tree was already in place, there was a large crwod assembled, and the High Street was closed for half an hour (except for buses which were escorted past at regular intervals!) Public performance no 106. Saturday 13^th December - Christmas Concert. Carols, and music for Christmas. In St Laurence Church Forres. There was a retiring collection in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care which raised £1008.37. The concert featured: Baritone - Andrew Heggie The Jordanhill Parish Church Handbell Ringers - Anne Goodall, Christine Reid, Susan Macfarlane, Mary Wilson Organist - Gordon Tocher Public performance no 107 will take place on Saturday 9^th May 2009, a performance of Handel's Samson. The performance will begin at 7.00 pm in St Laurence Church, Forres.
